THE "METAMORPHOSIS" COLLECTION

Metamorphosis Collection Photo by Monique Oliver Gloucestershire Artist

metamorphosis:
ˌmɛtəˈmɔːfəsɪs,ˌmɛtəmɔːˈfəʊsɪs/noun:
"a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one".

I am intrigued by the concept of duality and one of my central themes is the states of change brought about by conflict. Marrying this to a fascination for the way paint behaves, technical innovations and natural progression provided the inspiration for her METAMORPHOSIS series.

During the biological process of Metamorphosis there is a period of cell growth and differentiation, mirrored in the artistic process which births the pieces. The paint is placed under stress and interference mediums added to drive the formation of cells and patterns. There is an ethereal, fluid quality to the work with flashes of colour representing the “spark of life” moment a cell differentiates. The techniques employed during my painting sessions involve the paint undergoing its own metamorphosis and exploring that process has allowed me to delve  deeper into one of my main themes.

Each original painting in 61cmx61cms/24x24" is signed to the reverse, to allow it to be hung to your preference. On deep edge gallery wrap canvas (no visible staples to front or sides) the painting is finished with an isolation coat and 3-4 layers of varnish to protect it from dust, grime and UV light.
